"Those of you who have been to the Fayre before know the format - lots of stalls in the centre of the village along London Road, selling everything from books to pictures and mulled wine to jewellery; street entertainers; music and singing; and of course, a visit from Father Christmas himself!
The Fayre provides an excellent showcase for local businesses, charities, clubs, and societies.
Many of the shops along London Road remain open through the evening, and the village’s restaurants are available to cater for the many visitors - in recent years up to 2,000 people have attended.
The Christmas Fayre is run by Twyford Village Partnership and organisation of the event is undertaken by a committee of volunteers.
Until quite recently, Wokingham Borough Council provided most of the funding for the TVP and
therefore for the Christmas Fayre. But two years ago, the council withdrew its funding and since then we have been reliant on money raised locally to put on the Fayre. Twyford Parish Council has made a helpful contribution, as has the Louis Baylis (Maidenhead Advertiser) Charitable trust. Most of the money required has come from local businesses and a particularly generous donation from Bridge House Nursing Home is gratefully acknowledged.
We are very lucky in Twyford to be able to tap into a great community spirit, which makes the Fayre possible and which the Fayre itself demonstrates.
